What Makes LEDs More Robust than Other Light Sources?

ld light bulbs

In recent years, light emitting diodes (LEDs) have so grown in popularity that they’ve started replacing most conventional light sources. There are many reasons for this, including energy efficiency, durability, longer lifespan, and better lighting. However, one of the most pronounced advantages of these lights is their robustness.

LEDs contain no gas-filled tubes, fragile filaments, and moving parts to fatigue. Moreover, a one-step process occurs within the diode to provide light. Also, there are no screwed contacts to loosen or glass to break. That’s why LEDs are more robust than other light sources.

How LEDs Produce Light

A one-step process takes place within the LED’s diode, directly converting electrical energy into light energy. This ensures that the lighting process doesn’t take up much heat. As a result, there’s minimal damage to the LED material even in harsh weather conditions. That’s why you can switch these lights on and off several times without damaging them.

Solid State Lighting

Incandescent and fluorescent light sources can easily shatter as they are made up of filaments, bulbs, and tubes. The same applies to halogen lamps. As such, you need to be extremely careful when working with them because of the fragility of their materials.  LED light sources are not so.

LEDs are also referred to as Solid State Lighting (SSL) because they are made of solid material with no tube, filament, or bulb to break. As such, they can withstand vibrations or jarring that would otherwise damage traditional lights. They are, therefore, ideal for use in high-risk areas such as security lighting and basketball courts.

The regulatory standard test for LED light sources involves dropping them from over 4ft to ensure they’re robust enough for consumer use. If they don’t break, then they’re ready for the market. That’s how sure you can be when acquiring such a light.

Longer Lifespan

Typically, LEDs have a lifespan of 25,000 hours. That’s over 22 years if you were to use them for 3-hour periods every day. On the other hand, traditional bulbs last around 1-2 years while CFLs can take you between 6-13 years. This means that you can save big on replacement lamps and building maintenance by choosing LEDs.

In comparison to their incandescent and fluorescent counterparts, LEDs are more sustainable even when you expose them to the harshest and coldest weather conditions. That’s why they can last longer than traditional bulbs in outdoor areas. Another advantage is that LEDs get more efficient when temperatures get lower.

Electric bulbs emit excess heat. If you expose them to cold weather, they wear out quickly and can even burst when the surrounding temperature drops. With LEDs, there’s no such problem. They do not emit heat the way light bulbs do. Therefore, they can easily withstand harsh weather conditions between hot and cold.

There are many reasons as to why you should go with LEDs but their robustness is even more alluring. The fact that you can count on the lights even in extreme weather is something to be excited about. Purchase your LED light today and stop worrying about vibrations damaging it.
